MISSION REPORT - RESCUES - 11

12 DECEMBER 1944
Captain Gerard F. Wientjes, pilot of "Playmate Four One", departed Morotai at 0550 with instructions to cover a strike on Panay, picked up fighter escort at 1020 and arrived at orbit point at 1123. At 1205 he received a call of "Snafu" just East of Soyoton Point in Negros. Ten minutes later he arrived at the designated point and sighted survivors on the beach. Captain Wientjes landed his ship, taxied inshore and took the following men aboard: First Lieutenant William W. McGee, First Lieutenant Robert C. Damon, Second Lieutenant Pat N. Mann, Tech Sergeant David N. L. Beyer, Staff Sergeant Eugene C. Bosiacki, Staff Sergeant Richard E. Beard, and Staff Sergeant Peter F. Gjertson, 307th Bomb Squadron, 424th Bomb Group who were shot down 8 November 1944. 2Lt Paul Yuschak, Second Lieutenant Alfred H. Preinesberger, and Sergeant Michael Cannon, 307th Bomb Squadron, 424th Bomb Group, who were shot down 6 November 1944; and Staff Sergeant William E. Mills, 23rd Bomb Squadron, 5th Bomb Group, who bailed out of his ship 6 November 1944. All survivors were in good health and stated that they parachuted into the sea, were picked up by natives and taken ashore on Negros, where they stayed until rescued 12 December 1944. Second Lieutenant Andrew T. Puckovinsky, 106th Division USIP was evacuated.

Alfred R. Preimesberger; S/Sgt Peter F. Gjertson; 1st Lt. Robert C. Damon; 2nd Lt. Pat N. Mann; 1st Lt. Williard W. Magee; T/Sgt David N. L. Beyer
