MISSION REPORT - EVAC - 01

21 DECEMBER 1944
Captain Gerard F. Wientjes, pilot of "Playmate Four One", departed Morotai at 0415 on a mission to search for Snafus in area of Sindangan Bay. Weather was bad and was on instruments until 0730. Captain Wientjes ade a fifteen minute search for a life raft, but sighted nothing. By 0900 the weather was good and we orbited Olatanga Island and waited for calls. No calls were received. At 0930, Captain Wientjes and his crew departed Olatanga to search Sindangan Bay. They searched until 1030 but sighted nothing. He Landed at Dipolog at 1325 and remained on ground until 1450. Brought back one man, Pfc Peter Schut, 27th Material Squadron, (Guerilla). Landed at base at 1940.

Weather instruments - .8 to .9 cumulus till 0730.

0730:

Make a 15 minute search for life raft. Results nil. Nothing sighted.

0900:

Orbit Olatanga Is. No calls received. Weather good, visibility 30 miles.

0930:

Departed Olatanga Is. to search Sindangan Bay for rafts - 1000 to 1020.

1040:

Arrived Siaton Pt. for Rz with Devil, no contact.

1045:

Departed Siaton Pt. for Sajoton Pt.

1130:

Orbit Sojonton Pt. No calls received. Weather fair, broken to overcast at 3500'

1325:

On ground at Dipolog till 1450. Brought back 1 man; Peter Schut, Pfc, 27th Material Sq., (Guerilla)

1515:

Circles Misamis to take picture of previous bombing.

1540:

Circled 07°55'N, 123°37'E to check orange flashes reported 20 December. No contact.
