23 FEBRUARY 1945
Flight Lieutenant Walter R. Mills, RAAF attached to the 2nd Emergency Rescue Squadron, departed from Morotai at 1450 and arrived at their destination near the Island of Obinajo, south of the Halmaheras at 1723. Flight Lieutenant Mills sighted a dinghy, landed and effected the rescue of F/O Frances and P/O Haselwood of the 32nd Sq, RAAF. Flight Lieutenant Mills took the life raft aboard and took off in a relatively smooth water at 1740, arriving at Morotai at 1950. The survivors were unhurt and in good condition. They had been in the water about 5 hours.
