MISSION REPORT - EVAC - 07

25 DECEMBER 1944
Lieutenant Colonel Wallace S. Ford, pilot of "Finder 1", took off from Morotai at 0745 on a mission to deliver fuel to Dipolog, Mindanao. At 0845 there position was (03°35'N, 126°55'E) and they called fighter cover to give them grid of the rendezvous point because the grid was not in the SOI. At 1045, they met fighter cover at Fletcher point. They landed at Dipolog at 1140, and after dropping off gas to refuel a thirsty B-24, they took 7 men of another B-24 on board and brought them back to Morotai, landing at 1550.

The following was written up by the Operations Officer after debriefing the crew and submitted with Squadron History:

0745:

Take off, Morotai

0845:

Position - 03°35'N - 126°55'E. Called fighter cover to give hem position of Rz but no fighter grid reference was in the SOI. Winds at 1000 feet 40° / 8 knots.

1045:

Met fighter cover at Fletcher Pt. Wind 100� / 5 knots

1140:

Landed at Dipolog. Complete overcast at 4500 ft.

1200:

Took off after leaving gas for B-24 and picking up 7 men (B-24 crew)

1500:

Bad weather; rainstorm with low visibility. Position 03°N - 127°50'E.

1550:

Landed, Morotai
