Staff Sergeant James Hagman, (1923 - ) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 29, 1923 to Swedish immigrans Andrew and Victoria Hagman. He completed Central High School in 1942. Staff Sergeant Hagman enrolled at the University of Minnesota and completed only one quarter before he joined the service   later in 1942. (He completed his Bachelor's degree in 1948)

Sergeant Hagman completed his two weeks of basic training at Boca Raton, Florida and then headed off to South Dakota and Madison, Wisconsin to mechanic school. He joined the Second Emergency Rescue Squadron in September 1943 and was separated from the Army Air Corps after the war in December 1945.

After the war, Mr. Hagman worked for the Army Corps of Engineers (and hated it!), so he became a carpenter which he liked much better. In 1963 he started a very successful business called Hagman Construction Inc. where his sons work for him.
