An early canteen cover made in 1940, with a brass hook. This pattern is an
example of the 1st style rear assembly seam that
ran vertically the complete length of the cover. (There were 3 different
styles of rear seam) This type was produced until 1942. Canteen
covers were lined with gray-blue wool scraps for insulation. The front is
marked with U.S. low at the center.
