This is the second type cap for the US WWII canteens. The top was made of hard plastic and the rivet was flush with the top of the cap like the [1st style] cap. This was problematic because with the top sticking out of the cover, it was exposed to many things and the chain was often ripped off the canteen. It was changed to the [3rd style] cap for this reason. |
