JANUARY 1945 -
First Lieutenant Harold W. Strub, pilot
of
"Playmate Four Two", departed Morotai at
0645 and landed on the North coast of Tawi-Tawi at 1130. There he discharged
medical supplies for the Guerillas and took Sergeant Long aboard where he
was given two units of plasma and otherwise made comfortable. His condition was serious.
Captain Stratton and his seven year old son were also evacuated. Captain Stratton had been
Governor of Sulu Province and was suffering from Beri-Beri. He was a soldier in the
Spanish-American War and elected to remain in Sulu Province where he married a native and
reared a family. His wife remained on the Island with their children.
SGT B.R. Long , 405th Bomb Squadron,
crashed on Siasi Island , 24 January 1945. Six other members of the crew were killed in
the crash. Natives buried them on a hill overlooking the sea near the Musa Outpost on
Siasi Island on the Sulu Archipelago. Sergeant Long was severely burned and moribund. When he
arrived at Morotai, he was not expected to recover.
